Over the past two months, we have had the opportunity to share what we do at Te Aranui Youth Trust with the frontline Police within Tauranga. This amazing opportunity was brought to us through Operation Akotanga which is an initiative started to educate Police in culturally appropriate ways to deal with sudden death within Māori communities/ whanau and to give our Police a better understanding of Māori culture in New Zealand, colonisation and its effects on Maori people. Our role in the day is to educate our Police on working with youth and how they can refer children to our programmes. It is a great way to get our work out there and to build our relationship with the NZ Police.
